The Eagle Farmer Project is a sustainable livelihood initiative in select communities across the country to sustain farming activities and to improve upon income level of rural farmers. Sustainable development is a key ambition for Eagle Lager and for that matter Accra Brewery Limited by supporting local communities for a long term growth. It is in line with this goal that eagle Lager has developed the “Eagle Farmer Project” to grow local economies through agro-based and social intervention programmes.
One of these initiatives is the construction of a furrow irrigation system with a solar powered mechanized borehole for rural farmers.
Residents of Nabio in Paga, a farming community of 5,000 people, were proud recipients of this facility to sustain their farming projects after similar investments in Hohoe Huniiso in Volta and Western Regions respectively this year at a cost of GH¢91,000 per one.
The mechanized borehole with solar panels and the irrigation facility provides clean drinking water and enables rural farmers to undertake their farming activities in the dry season. Inaugurating the project, Hon. George Nontera, the District Chief Executive lauded the project and commended ABL for the initiative which serves as an alternative to rain-fed agriculture.
Jerry Gokah, Senior Brands Manager in charge of the Eagle Farmer Project, said the introduction of Eagle Lager Beer has created a significant number of direct and indirect sources of employment for farmers and others along the value chain.
